How to Find a Door Closer Part Number

Start with the manufacturer and the markings you can see safely. A model number and a date code are different identifiers.

For many surface-mounted LCN cast-iron hydraulic closers, Allegion identifies the packing nut around the pinion shaft as the location of the model and date markings. Its instructions identify different locations for concealed models; this is not a universal location for every closer.

Photograph visible markings and the whole closer and arm. If identification would require removing hardware or opening a concealed unit, send the visible information first so the next step can be reviewed.
