You can also send your enquiry by email to info@strikedoors.com, using the template at the end of this guide. More about hardware enquiries: Door Hardware.
Part request or on-site service?
- A replacement part request is for when you know, or can show us, the item you need and you or your own installer will install it. This guide covers that.
- On-site service is for when you need someone to find the problem, fit the part, or check the door. If the site is in the Sacramento region, use Request Service instead. That is not a hardware enquiry.
- Not sure? Send the enquiry with photos and say so. We will tell you which route fits.
What to include
- Manufacturer, as marked on the product or its label.
- Model or part number, copied exactly as marked, including any letters, dashes or suffixes. A partial number is still useful; say that it is partial.
- Quantity you need.
- Finish as it looks (for example, a colour and whether it is shiny or brushed), or a finish code if one is marked.
- Dimensions, only if you can do so safely without removing, opening or disconnecting anything and without working at height. If a measurement is not easy to reach, leave it out and we will ask what else would help.
- Exact match or a suitable replacement: say whether you need the same manufacturer and model, or are open to a replacement we confirm with you before anything is ordered.
- Handing, if you know it. "Not sure" is a fine answer.
- Photos (optional) of the intact door and the hardware in place: one of the whole door and one or two close-ups of the item and any label. Do not remove hardware to photograph it.
- The US state it would ship to.
A matching appearance is not compatibility
A matching appearance alone does not show that a part is compatible. Two items can look the same and differ in size, function, strength, electrical rating or the door type they are made for. We confirm the exact part with you before anything is ordered. We cannot confirm from photos that a part suits a particular door.
Take extra care, and involve an appropriately qualified person, if any of these apply or you are unsure:
- the item is electrified, or connected to access control, an alarm or a building system;
- the door is a fire door, or carries a fire rating label;
- the door is on an exit route, or the hardware is used to open it for exit;
- the door is automatic, or has a powered operator.
Please say in your enquiry if any of these apply, or if you do not know. This guide does not give installation instructions. Follow the manufacturer's instructions. Where the work affects the door's function or safety, have an appropriately qualified person carry out the installation and check the result.
Please do not send
- passwords, PINs, or door, gate, alarm or keypad access codes;
- key numbers, key cutting (bitting) codes, or photos of keys;
- master-key or key-control records;
- access-control or alarm system details, such as system logins, wiring or layouts;
- card or fob numbers;
- photos where any of the above are visible.
We do not need them to identify hardware.
Frequently asked questions
Can I order online?
Not yet. Online checkout is not available yet. An enquiry lets us confirm what we can supply, and it does not place an order.
Is a part available, and what does it cost?
We confirm price and availability for each enquiry before anything is ordered. We do not show live stock or list prices, and we do not promise delivery dates in advance.
Where would you ship?
Our plan is to supply hardware within the United States only. We confirm whether and how we can fulfil each enquiry before anything is ordered. The US state you give helps us check what applies before we reply.
The new part looks identical. Is that enough?
No. A matching appearance alone does not show that a part is compatible. The manufacturer and part number, the quantity and your answers about the door help us confirm the exact item.
Can you tell me whether a part is right for a fire door, exit door, electrified door or automatic door?
We cannot confirm that from an enquiry. Please have an appropriately qualified person check the opening. If the site is in the Sacramento region, you can use Request Service and we will look at the request.
Does this guide explain installation?
No. This guide does not give installation instructions. Please follow the manufacturer's instructions and use a qualified installer where needed.
I cannot find a part number. Can I still ask?
Yes. Send the manufacturer if it is marked, photos of the intact door and hardware, and a short description. We will ask for anything else we need.
